Myself and two of my sons, had been looking forward to this event for quite a while and we were not disappointed. The only issue is getting up to be on the road at 6.30 in the morning, it’s a 3.1/2hr trip each way.
Having seen some of the collection at various events round the country we knew it would be a worthwhile trip.
On arriving at the opening time of 10am there where already quite a few there, some had even travelled further than us. The first engine as you go through the gates was a large National Gas Engine, unfortunately later in the day the top pipe fractured where it was welded to the flange and water went everywhere, but I am sure it will be fixed very soon. Opposite this was another smaller National a size L (still weighs in at about 1 tonne).
On entering the first shed there were those seen at every rally, like Amancos, Bamfords, even a humble lister D Spec 17DH, Ruston AP etc to the slightly more obscure like Carbrooke, Tangye, Bristol Victoria, Hercules on an original cart, Large IHC etc.
Back outside was a Petter Handyman needing constant attention as do most of the early Petter 4 stroke engines. There were many other Petters including M and S type as well as several Petter atomic running with a nice steady rhythm.
Down the side of the building was a Blackstone Springer throbbing away. Just round from this was a Hornsby Oil engine in its own shed.
Permanently mounted in the middle shed where some large Rustons, a 8HR and a 9HRC, 142 BHP from 1957. Elsewhere on site was Trailer mounted 3HR.
Outside and in another lean to building there were Campbells, Walsh and Clarke, Tangye, Blackstone, Ruston 15HP IP and many more, see pictures below. A big thank you to Paul for putting on a great display and also all his helpers.
