Malpas Yesteryear Rally 50th

This was the first time we have attended this rally after being asked if we would go by the section steward, Phil Cotton. Arriving on site there were decent roadways to all parts of the site, and Phil was there to greet us and show us where to pitch up for the weekend. There were a nice selection of engines of all sizes from a small JAP to the lorry mounted Gardener belonging to Harold Lomas.

There were 96 engines listed in the programme, some that are not seen  very often. How often do you see four Powells at one rally?.

Saturday was a good day with plenty of public walking about, Sunday started dull and rain started about 10am and lasted about 3 hours. Most engines kept running and there were some hardy spectators walking round, the afternoon was quite busy once the rain finished.

Some of the engines which stood out were Ed Baker’s Advance Hot Bulb,

Phil Cottons Very late 1932 Allen Oil Engine,

and Alan Willett’s 14HP Tangye and generator.

Other engines not often seen where our Keighley 4HP gas engine, and Walsh and Clarke Oil engine, also Stephen Cooper’s Warwick Eagle and a Morris 8, Series E Fire Pump (owner not recorded)

We had a nice relaxing weekend and will be back next year. Some of the other engine attending are shown below.
