I was stuck in England with work on the Sunday of Castle Combe Steam Rally 2025, so I decided to borrow a bike and cycle the 10 or so miles to the show to break up my weekend.
I was quite taken aback by how far the spectators had to walk from the car parking area. There were tractors and trailers picking people up, but I was still quite glad to have a bike to get to the main showground. It’s a very well-thought-out show, and the Stationary Engines are the first things that greet you on either side of the walkway.
There was a diverse selection of engines for both spectators and enthusiasts, a little 1hp Mogel, IHC Tom Thumb Air-cooled and Gade Air-cooled open crank took my fancy. The rest of the show didn’t disappoint, and I picked up a few weak springs to put in the toolbox for governor springs if needed.
A nice show if you are in the area, it was worth the sore legs for me to get out and about for the day.
