The May Bank Holiday weekend of the 24th to the 26th saw Strumpshaw steam rally return. After a soggy one last year, it was good to actually have some decent weather! Engine numbers were down on previous years with the organisers cutting the numbers of tractors, engines and commercials but a good display was still put on by those who actually turned up, there was quite a few empty spaces in the engine pens so it seems they could have been a little too tight on numbers.
Enough of the politics, the engines that were there were very nice, Aaron Sadler had a lovely Petter M of 8hp, a size not often seen on the rally field, and hopefully that will be at Petterfest in October along with at least one more of the same size.
Kevin Leverett won first prize for his Peartop Petter M and also enjoyed a little late night light up on both Saturday and Sunday night.
All in all, a good selection with the Lister D being the main engine on display but a good selection of Petter Ms and also some lovely Rustons including David Cook and his sweet little IP, this is the smallest IP I know and really is “pocket size” and would be lovely in my shed!!
