Strumpshaw Trosh

Strumpshaw Steam Museum has an end of season rally known as “The Trosh” and is normally held on the last weekend of August/ first weekend of September, this year it was on the 30th & 31st August, this is a very much smaller event compared to the May Bank Holiday rally with just the one field in use, in my opinion a nicer rally for us engine boys as we are more involved with the rally and do seem to have more people looking round.

This year was just as good as others, a really nice selection of engines on display from Aaron Sadlers mighty 8hp M type Petter to a nicely restored Villiers pump set owned by Master Neve who was given this for his 10th birthday! Nice to see some young blood coming along.

Anthony Neve was there with with his pair of nicely restored D-types, now these aren’t my thing however Anthony has made a bit of effort with these, one is driving a dynamo which is then used to power an electric motor on a Lee Howl Super Major pump and the other one driving a compressor blowing bubbles in a tank of water, not to everyone’s taste but it does show just what can be done.

One “common” engine with a difference was a Petter A1 that has had a ring bolted to the flywheel, not sure as to why this was done but it does make an interesting difference to the standard A1!

Also a Wolseley WD? Not sure about this one, is it a twin flywheel WD with a Ruston PT head?

All in all, a good weekend, not too much to see but enough to make it a relaxing weekend.
