Woolpit Steam Rally 2025

Woolpit Steam Rally 2025 held over the weekend of the 30th May and 1st June.

Woolpit is a small village between Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket in Suffolk and can trace it roots right back to the mid-70s as a rally back when the Cotton Exhibition as it was known and later as a rally in its own right starting in 1987 at Grange Farm, over the years it has grown and is now a very select rally with an extremely nice range of exhibits!

I’m going to stick to the engines mainly as that is “my bag” and there is enough of those to look at but I will add a few other “bits” just so you can see the sort of event this is.

Engine numbers were around 85 in total with some really nice examples, a pair of Wolseley Alamo engines, Caple, International, Hamworthy the normal Ruston, Petter, Lister mix and a few Amancos for good measure.

As a side note, one chap had a Ram Pump on display, all set up with a Climax pump used to fill the header tank to allow the pump to work and then had it clacking away pumping water a good 4 or 5m up before it then dropped back to the main tank, very neat!

Sanderson tractors are always on display here and this year was no exception with several of those rather unique tractors on display, you’d really have to hate horses to use one of them instead!

Another oddity was a Field Marshall on iron wheels, not something seen often….

Nice CAT Sixty on a grader in the dirt box making a hole.

Wasn’t running too good when I see it but still sounded nice
