Strumpshaw Steam Rally 2026

Well for a cancelled rally it wasn’t that bad!

Strumpshaw May Bank Holiday rally as it’s been for the last 30 years came to an end this year with the cancellation of the normal 3 day rally held over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, however, the museum didn’t let it end there and arranged for a smaller, more compact event held on the Sunday and Monday as it always was years ago.

This was possible with the organisers “cherry picking” exhibits rather than the normal  way of sending forms and letting all who want to come turn up, this wasn’t a popular decision and many people who have come to the rally for years were left out of the line up and didn’t take long before getting on Facebook to vent their anger at this but that’s life sometimes and not everyone wins.

What was left was an engine pen with some really good examples and one not full of mud weights as seen at other shows, might not be to everyone’s taste but it did make a nice display in the room we had.

One engine owner that always puts on a nice display was David Cook, with his Ruston Hornsby IP and Tangye pump, he is a restorer and likes to paint his engines, which he does to a very high level and is always well presented.

If you are a painter or oily ragger, you have to admire the skills involved to get a brush finish to this standard….

Another nice exhibit was this root chopper with an aircooled Bamford? I stand to be corrected as I’ve actually lost the infomation on this one…..

Then there was the Petter Crude oil (Pre S type) of Aaron Sadler, nice thing about this is it even has a “P” shaped frost repair in the side of the cylinder…..

All in all, not a bad couple of days, weather was kind, very hot on the Monday and the site was fairly empty of the public by around 13.00 but it was ok.
